Welcome to Saturday Swim School.

ABOUT

Saturday Swim School has been operating at the American Embassy School for over 45 years. It is American Red Cross Swimming and water safety program that benefits as much the students as it does the instructors.

The purpose of the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program is two-fold: to teach people how to be safe in, on and around water; and to teach people of all ages and varying abilities how to swim. Using a logical progression, the program covers the knowledge and skills needed for aquatic skill development, which, in turn, leads to safer and better swimmers.

The Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program teaches people of all ages and varying abilities to swim and be safe in, on and around water. Swimming readiness and swim instruction courses with in the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program include Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to- Swim and Adult Swim courses. These courses take an inclusive approach that emphasizes skill development in conjunction with water safety and drowning prevention education. The Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program help teach all the age groups how to enjoy the water safely and how to stay safe in the event of an emergency.

The instructors are A.E.S. high school students who enjoy working with children and who have a swimming background. They are required to attend in-service training sessions in order to be prepared to deliver the lessons and to do so effectively. The instructors learn about lesson preparation, effective lesson delivery, biomechanics behind water safety skill will be taught along with proper swimming technique, and on a more interpersonal level, they learn how positive feedback, tolerance and patience can enhance learning and enjoyment.

The student swimmers are taught basic foundation skills at the lower levels with defined progressions through the levels. Each skill taught is a building block towards a higher-level skill. Upon completion of all 6 levels of the Saturday Swim School program swimmers should be able to properly perform all four competitive strokes. In addition to the skills of the different strokes, time is spent on water safety as it applies to the individual swimmer and to swimmers in need of assistance.

The Saturday Swim School is open to American Embassy School students, parents and siblings. The lessons are 40 minutes in duration with a 10 minutes break and run for 6 weeks: Dates are April 12, April 19, April 26, May 3, May 10 and May 17 . The cost of the lessons is $60.

We may have multiple classes of the same course going at the same time. Please register for only one section. A child should only be registered for one course.

Registration is open for 3 days, March 24 4:00 pm - March 26 4:00pm. Choose your level and time slot.
